Pantothenic Acid In Gelagen
Turns into panthenol, the barrier ingredient sitting in half the moisturisers you have owned.

Pantothenic Acid On The Label
Two gummies a day is the serving. What follows is the long version: the chemistry, the shortfall, the ceiling and the caution, written out rather than compressed into a claim.
Pantothenic Acid In Plain Words
Pantothenic acid is named from the Greek pantothen, meaning from everywhere, because it turns up in nearly every food anybody has ever tested. Gelagen uses the calcium salt, d-calcium pantothenate, which is simply the stable form. If you have read a moisturiser label recently you have met its close relative: panthenol, the alcohol form, which is one of the most widely used barrier ingredients in skincare.
What It Does Inside A Skin Cell
B5 is the raw material for coenzyme A, and coenzyme A is arguably the busiest molecule in your metabolism. Every fatty acid you build or break down passes through it. That matters here for a specific reason: the outer layer of your skin is held together by a lipid matrix, a mortar of ceramides, cholesterol and free fatty acids packed between the cells. Making that mortar is fatty-acid synthesis, and fatty-acid synthesis runs on coenzyme A. B5 is not moisturising your skin. It is supplying the factory that builds the layer which stops water leaving.
What Running Short Looks Like
Deficiency of pantothenic acid is genuinely rare in people eating any kind of ordinary diet, which is what its name predicts. It has mostly been documented in severe general malnutrition and in a handful of deliberate experimental studies, where the notable finding was a burning sensation in the feet along with fatigue, irritability and stomach upset. If you are looking for the nutrient on this label you are least likely to be short of, this is it — and that honesty is part of why it earns a page rather than a bullet point.
How Much Is Enough, And How Much Is Too Much
There is no formal reference intake for B5, only an adequate intake figure of about 5 milligrams a day for adults. No tolerable upper limit has been established either, because no consistent harm has been found at high intakes; very large doses can loosen the stools and that is broadly the extent of it. As with everything else here, the panel on your bottle is the number that applies to your bottle.
Where Food Supplies It
Chicken, beef, liver, eggs, mushrooms, avocado, sunflower seeds, potatoes, broccoli and whole grains. It is worth knowing that food processing takes a real toll: refining a whole grain into white flour removes a large share of the B5 along with much else, and freezing and canning both cost some. A diet built mainly from refined and heavily processed foods is the realistic way to end up low in a vitamin that is otherwise everywhere.
Where To Be Careful With Pantothenic Acid
There is very little to say, and saying so is more useful than manufacturing a warning. Pantothenic acid is well tolerated and has no meaningful drug interactions at supplemental amounts. Extremely high doses taken for acne — well into the grams, far above anything in a gummy — have been associated with digestive upset and are not what this formula is doing.
How It Works With The Rest Of The Formula
B5 and Biotin are the two halves of the fat side of this formula: one supplies coenzyme A, the other activates the carboxylases that work alongside it, and between them they cover the assembly of the barrier lipids. Vitamin A decides how the cells sitting in that barrier mature. The rest of the group handles division. That is the whole formula in one sentence.
What the bottle says wins. The serving is two gummies, and every vitamin with an established reference intake is declared on the supplement facts panel with a percent daily value beside it. If a figure quoted on this page ever disagreed with the panel printed on the bottle in your hand, the panel is correct and this page is out of date. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prescription or a substitute for asking a clinician.
Answers
Pantothenic Acid: Common Questions
The ones that come up about this ingredient rather than the product.
Is pantothenic acid the same as panthenol?
They are closely related. Panthenol is the alcohol form used topically in moisturisers; the body converts it to pantothenic acid. Gelagen supplies the vitamin itself, taken by mouth.
Can you be deficient in vitamin B5?
It is rare, because the vitamin is present in nearly every food. It has mostly been seen in severe malnutrition and in experimental studies.
Does B5 help with acne?
Very high gram-level doses have been studied for acne with mixed results. That is a different proposition from a normal supplemental amount in a daily gummy.
Is there an upper limit for B5?
None has been established. Very large amounts may loosen the stools and that is about the extent of the reported problem.
Why is B5 in a skin supplement?
Because coenzyme A, which is built from it, drives the fatty-acid synthesis behind the lipid layer that holds water inside your skin.
